Cover Chat: Also Known As by Robin Benway
When I received my copy of Also Known As, I remarked to the folks at the Bloomsbury booth that I really liked the cover (on the left)--and I'm not normally a fan of faces on covers. It was fun and hinted at the humor inside the pages. I thought the color was striking (I love blues), but what I really loved was the quirky, Alias-style "transformation" from international teenager of mystery to normal girl.
I was definitely curious what the final cover would look like, and I have to say, I wasn't too impressed. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was our first introduction to Britney Spears.
Granted, the new cover definitely has better potential for being emulated in a series, but I am so over the private school uniform covers. They aren't as bad as say the frothy dresses that make no sense in the context of the story, but still... And I always think Gallagher Girls when I see this type of image in YA (especially since this is also a teen spy novel).
Is this just me? Do you think Britney meets Gallagher Girls when you see this type of YA book cover?
