{Cover Art Reveal} The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spalding

On Monday, we chatted with author Amy Spalding about her quest to oversee all aspects of the cover design for her new debut novel, The Reece Malcolm List (Entangled Teen 2013).

The Blurb

Things I know about Reece Malcolm:

  1. She graduated from New York University.
  2. She lives in or near Los Angeles.
  3. Since her first novel was released, she’s been on the New York Times bestseller list every week.
  4. She likes strong coffee and bourbon.
  5. She’s my mother.

Devan knows very little about Reece Malcolm, until the day her father dies and she’s shipped off to live with the mother she’s never met. All she has is a list of notebook entries that doesn’t add up to much.
L.A. offers a whole new world to Devan—a performing arts school allows her to pursue her passion for show choir and musicals, a new circle of friends helps to draw her out of her shell, and an intriguing boy opens up possibilities for her first love.

But then the Reece Malcolm list gets a surprising new entry. Now that Devan is so close to having it all, can she handle the possibility of losing everything?

The Cover

What do you think?

I love the photo—it looks like an actual teen wearing actual teen clothes. And, from what I hear, this image is actually relevant to the story. And, the notebook has a mysterious feel to it for me. I’m not in love with the type treatment, though. But, that’s pretty normal for me, since I fret over typography constantly (and I’m never happy with it… sigh).

But, honestly, what caught my eye the most is a blurb from Courtney Freaking Summers! Wow.

The Tour

Amy stopped at the following blogs on her tour—check them out for some fun info about how this cover came to be, including styling, an interview with the model, Amy’s close encounter with Matt Saracen (um, that would be our stop on the tour) and other fun stuff.
