Recently Read: Comics Edition

You may recall that I've slid far, far down the comics rabbit hole. I even have new releases on my calendar so I remember to get say, the new Saga, on the Wednesday it releases.

Here's what I've recently read.

Hawkeye, Volumes 1-3.

These combined volumes feature the archer Avenger and his mentee Kate, who's also known as Hawkeye and is super rad. I knew nothing about The Avengers going into this and found it incredibly accessible and liked the healthy does of angst. Fraction writes Sex Criminals, which I love, so I shouldn't be surprised by this one, but I was. My favorite was the third volume, LA Woman, which is just a Kate story.

Ms. Marvel Issue #14
Ms. Marvel Issue 13

Ms. Marvel #12-14

Ms. Marvel is basically my favorite thing right now and the two most recent issues are fabulous. In particular, #13 introduces a boy and it's adorable. But now I'm super worried about everything that's going to go down--I hate waiting for new issues!

Saga #25

Saga #25-26

I can't even with the brilliance of Saga. The plotting just kills me--it's a wonder how they keep tying little threads together. If you're not reading Saga, you need to take a close look at your life choices.

Southern Cross #!
Southern Cross #2

Southern Cross #1-2

I picked up Southern Cross when I snagged the most recent issue of Saga because I was drawn to the beautiful cover art. It ended up being a real surprise, kind of a noir story, but in space. It's really promising, even only two issues in.

Silk

Silk, #1-3

Silk is a Korean-American 20-something spider-woman named Cindy Moon. Obviously, I had to pick up the first issue because her last name is Moon and so is mine. And I'm also really trying to try out as many female-led comics as I can, because I think it's important to make my dollars speak. I was incredibly surprised by how much I got sucked into Cindy's story, since I'm not a big fan of the Spider-Man story, except in Saturday morning cartoons. The artwork by Stacey Lee is phenomenal. (Her website is full of her stunning work--check it out.)

Alex + Ada Vol 2

Alex + Ada, Vol. 2, & Issues 11-14

I am so mad at this series right now! Apparently issue 14 is the second to last ever and there was a big cliffhanger and the finale isn't until late June and I'm not handling any of this well. Alex + Ada is the first comic I read from the very first issue, when the first issue was released, so this is all very hard for me.
